How to convert EPUB to KEpub
Select your EPUB file
Open the book from your device. It is read by your browser directly — nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Convert to KEpub
Every sentence gets its Kobo marker and the book is repacked as a .kepub.epub file. A progress bar shows each step as it runs locally.
Download and copy to your Kobo
Save the converted book, then sideload it to your Kobo over USB. The device recognizes the enhanced format automatically.
What a KEpub adds on top of an EPUB
A KEpub is a standard EPUB with a layer of Kobo-specific enhancements. Inside every chapter, each sentence is wrapped in a marker the device can count. That small change is what unlocks Kobo's chapter statistics: time spent per chapter, pages left in the chapter, and a sharper sense of progress than plain page numbers give.
The text itself does not change. Fonts, images, styles and formatting survive the conversion untouched — a KEpub renders exactly like the EPUB it came from, with the extra Kobo features switched on.
What changes inside the file — and what doesn't
Under the hood, the converter inserts Kobo's sentence spans, wraps each chapter body in Kobo's layout containers and patches the package metadata. The result is still a fully valid EPUB archive, just carrying Kobo's markers — which is why the file keeps the double extension .kepub.epub.
Books with unusual or slightly broken chapters still convert: any file the parser cannot safely rewrite is passed through unchanged, so you always get a complete, working book.

Frequently asked questions
Is this EPUB to KEpub converter really free?
Yes. Every tool on iloveepub is free, with no accounts, no credits and no daily limits. The site is supported by ads, not subscriptions.
What is the difference between EPUB and KEpub?
A KEpub is an EPUB with Kobo's enhancements layered in: sentence-level markers that enable per-chapter reading statistics and more accurate in-chapter progress. The actual content — text, images, styling — is identical.
Does my Kobo need KEpub files?
No. Kobo e-readers open standard EPUBs without any issues. KEpub is an upgrade: it switches on chapter statistics and finer progress tracking that many readers find worth the one-step conversion.
Will the conversion change my book?
No text, image or style is modified. The converter only adds Kobo's markers and layout containers, and it leaves any chapter it cannot safely rewrite exactly as it was.
Can I convert DRM-protected EPUBs?
No. Books with DRM (such as those bought from Kobo or other stores) cannot be processed — and removing DRM would violate the store's terms.
Is my book uploaded to a server?
Never. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — you can verify it yourself: open your browser's network inspector while converting and you will see zero uploads.
