How to split an EPUB into separate files

  1. Select your EPUB file

Open the file from your device. It is read by your browser directly — nothing is uploaded anywhere.

  2. Pick the chapters to extract

The tool lists every chapter in the book's spine. Select the ones you want — a single chapter, a range, or the whole book.

  3. Download the split files

Each selected chapter becomes an independent, valid EPUB, bundled in one zip and saved straight back to your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser on your own device. There is no upload step and no server that could see your book — you can even disconnect after the page loads.

Is each split chapter a complete, valid EPUB?

Yes. Every chapter is packaged as its own EPUB with its own metadata, manifest and table of contents. Each part opens on its own in any reader — it is not a raw HTML fragment.

Can I split by something other than chapters?

The split points follow the book's own spine — the reading order defined by the publisher, which usually maps to chapters. If a book uses one giant file for everything, it will show as a single chapter.

What do I get — one file or many?

You get one zip archive containing one EPUB per selected chapter, named by chapter number and title (for example, 03-The-Mirror.epub). Extract the zip and copy the parts you want onto your reader.

Why split an EPUB at all?

Common reasons: loading just a section onto a small e-reader, sharing a sample or a single story from an anthology, or sending one part of a manual to a colleague — without editing the book by hand.
