When you want one chapter, not the whole book
An anthology that is over the 50 MB Send to Kindle email cap, when a single story inside it is not. A textbook chapter you want on a small e-ink device for a commute, without the other four hundred pages. A procedure in a manual that a colleague asked for, as its own file. Splitting follows the publisher's spine. It does not look for headings and guess.
If the whole novel was exported as one XHTML file, the spine has one item and the split has nothing useful to cut. That book needs an editor that can break the HTML first. This page will not invent chapter boundaries the file does not contain.
What each extracted file contains
Every selected spine item becomes its own EPUB, packed together in one zip. The names look like 03-The-Mirror.epub. Inside, the mimetype entry is first and stored uncompressed, container.xml is copied, and the OPF is pruned to the resources that chapter actually references: images, stylesheets, and fonts reached from that document. The nav and the NCX are rewritten as a single entry. The title becomes the book title plus the chapter title. A declared cover image is included, so the part still has a shelf thumbnail.
Links from the chapter to the next chapter are not followed. Following them would pull the rest of the book back in. Those links are ordinary dead links in the part. A footnote or image in another file is included when the chapter points at it. A media overlay (SMIL plus audio) that belongs to the chapter comes along. The source file is capped at 120 MB.
What a spine split cannot do
It cannot cut in the middle of a chapter, and it cannot split by page count or word count. A picture book stored as one spine item stays one file no matter how large it is. Shared images are copied into each part that references them, so five chapters that all use the same stylesheet will each carry that stylesheet. The parts are valid EPUBs, not HTML fragments, but they are not a reflowed rewrite of the prose.
DRM files are rejected. Highlights and reading position stay in the app you were using. The zip you download stores the inner EPUBs without compressing them again, because an EPUB is already a zip.
Calibre can cut where the spine will not
Calibre's editor and its split tools can break a document on a page-break or an XPath, including in the middle of a single HTML file. That is more power, and it is easier to slice a sentence in half or to orphan a stylesheet. Use it when the publisher never encoded chapters as spine items.
This page refuses that guess. It packages the spine items you select, with the resources they reference and a one-entry table of contents. If the spine already matches the chapters you want, you do not need Calibre in the loop.

الأسئلة الشائعة
I selected three chapters and got a zip. What is inside?
One EPUB per selected spine item, named like 03-The-Mirror.epub. Each has its own package document, a one-entry table of contents, and the images and stylesheets that chapter references.
The book shows a single chapter. Can I still split it?
Not usefully. Split points are spine items. A novel stored as one XHTML file is one item. Calibre's editor can cut that HTML. This page will not guess where the chapters are.
Are images shared by several chapters copied into each file?
Yes, when that chapter's HTML or CSS references them. Images used only by other chapters are left out. A cover is added when the source book declared one.
Will a link to the next chapter work?
No. Those links are navigation, and following them would drag the rest of the book into the part. The reader shows them as dead links. A link to a footnote or image in another file is kept when the chapter points at that file.
Does this help with the 50 MB Send to Kindle email limit?
Only when the size is spread across chapters. A large anthology can become several smaller EPUBs, and you can email the ones under 50 MB. A large picture book stored as one spine item stays one file.
