Change EPUB Cover

Swap the cover of any EPUB ebook in a few clicks: the current cover is extracted automatically, you preview the new one side by side, and everything else in the book stays untouched. The whole swap happens locally in your browser — your book is never uploaded anywhere. Free, no accounts, no limits.

How to change an EPUB cover

  1. Select your EPUB file

Open the book from your device. The current cover is extracted and shown — nothing is uploaded.

  2. Upload the new cover

Pick a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF image and preview it next to the old cover before committing.

  3. Download the updated EPUB

Save the file and copy it to your reader — the new cover appears on the shelf and inside the book.

Cover sizes readers expect

Most e-reader shelves render covers at a 2:3 portrait ratio. Amazon recommends 1600×2560 pixels for Kindle, Apple Books looks best at 1200–1600 pixels wide, and Kobo and Google Play Books follow the same proportions. An image of that shape avoids awkward cropping.

File size matters less than shape: JPG is the safest universal choice, PNG is fine for flat illustrations, and WebP is supported by every modern reader except some older firmware.

Only the cover changes

The tool rewrites exactly three things: the cover image file, its manifest entry, and the cover markers in the package metadata. Chapters, CSS, fonts, highlights and reading position are not touched.

Frequently asked questions

Is this EPUB cover changer really free?

Yes. Every tool on iloveepub is free, with no accounts, no credits and no daily limits. The site is supported by ads, not subscriptions.

Which image formats can I use as a cover?

JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF. JPG at 1600×2560 pixels is the safest choice across Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books and Google Play Books.

The whole book gets rebuilt — does anything else change?

No. Chapters, styles, fonts, metadata and the reading order are copied byte-for-byte. Only the cover image and its references are rewritten.

My EPUB has no cover at all. Can I add one?

Yes — the tool detects books without a cover and creates the cover entry from scratch, so your reader gets a shelf thumbnail for the first time.

Can I remove a cover instead of replacing it?

Yes, there is a remove option next to the apply button. It deletes the cover image and its metadata markers, leaving everything else intact.

Is my book uploaded to a server?

Never. The swap runs entirely in your browser — open your network inspector while working and you will see zero uploads.
